Vanessa Herrera, an El Paso, Texas native, earned her B.A. in Criminal Justice from the University of Texas at El Paso and her J.D. from St. Mary's University School of Law. At UTEP, Vanessa was a member of the Law School Preparation Institute, where she had the opportunity to serve as a CASA advocate, intern with a non-profit immigration organization, and present a mock oral argument before the Eighth Circuit Court of Appeals as part of her training.

At St. Mary's, Vanessa was an advocate on the National Mock Trial Team, winning two National Championships during her second and third years and was awarded the Litigation and Advocacy Award. Vanessa also contributed as a staff writer to The Scholar: St. Mary's Law Review on Race and Social Justice, focusing her work on immigrants' rights in employment.

After law school, Vanessa moved to Galveston, Texas, where she joined Texas' oldest law firm as an Associate Attorney. She gained diverse legal experience by practicing in different areas of the law, including prosecuting misdemeanor offenses as General Counsel for the City of La Marque, handling business litigation and commercial transactions, and preparing appellate briefs for the Fourteenth Circuit Court of Appeals.

Vanessa is excited to be back in San Antonio, where it feels more like home, and looks forward to being part of the Ray | Peña | McChristian team, collaborating with talented attorneys, strengthening her advocacy skills, and contributing to the firm's continued success.
